Biography
After
Ian Watkins and Mike Lewis broke up with their former band, "Public Disturbance"
they formed 'Lozt Prophetz' (a name which later shapped into lostprophets) in
1997, named after a 1988 Duran Duran bootleg. Lee Gaze and Mike Chiplin joined them
and Ian left his former drumming position and took over as a lead vocalist. They recorded demos,
first of which was 'Here Comes the Party', followed by 'Para Todas las Putas
Celosas'. These demos featured Watkins rapping and are still available around
the internet, although the have not been released commercially. After years of
touring, and the release of the demo 'fakesoundofprogress' , the label
"Visible Noice Records" offered them to record a single. In 1999,
bassist Stuart Richardson joined the band. In 2000, the band signed with Visible
Noise and they released their first album
"The Fake Sound Of Progress" in October 2000. The album earned a US recording contract with Columbia
Records, and support slots with Pitchshifter, Linkin Park and the Deftones. By
this point, their line up was completed with Jamie Oliver on the
decks/keyboards.
After Columbia signed them they remixed their album and toured through the USA.
After the touring the boys entered the studio to record their second album. They
worked with producer Eric Valentine (Good Charlotte, Queens of the Stone Age).
The second album named "Start Something" blew up on the charts and one hit after
another rotated through all the radio stations. The album is now platinum in the
UK, with five top 20 singles on it.
As of April 2006 the band is prepared to release the next album entitled
"Liberation Transmission" with a new drummer in tow after the the June 2005
departure of original drummer Mike Chiplin. The new album was
released June 27th with the first single, "Rooftops" out in May. They've
recently finished a line of shows in UK including the Give It A Name festival in
which they played in front of over 10,000 people.
The new album, Liberation Transmission, entered the UK charts at top position,
no.1. The first single from it, Rooftops, reached number 8 in the UK charts. The
band kicked off the album launch with a successful UK tour in July, and sold out
venues all across Britain. This tour was followed by some summer festivals and
the a Autumn tour with HIM in the United States.
